Performing Arts Camps meet at the main campus at Spirit Square, Charlotte NC, 345 N. College St., uptown, unless otherwise noted. Pre and post-care is available. Full and half-day sessions offered. Arts Discovery Camp North Carolina: Ages 4 and 5. Weekly sessions June 16-July 25, 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Build communication and development skills through visual arts, music, creative movement and drama. June 16-20: Mother Goose in the House. June 23-27: Patriotic Parade. July 7-11: Sea and Sun Fun. July 14-18: Teeny Tiny Travels. July 21-25: Carnival. Cost: $135 per week.
Arts Workshop Camp: Grades 1-6. Weekly sessions journey through art, dance, drama, and music of the world. June 16-July 25, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 16-20: Mystical, Magical Europe. June 23-27: Treasures of the Americas. July 7-11: Lost in Asia. July 21-25: Spirited Africa. July 14-18: Down Under in Australia. Cost: $275 per week.
Childrens Arts Institute Camp: Grades 7-9. July 7-11: Grease. July 14-18: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Campers will be cast in roles from the stage productions, design a set, and prepare for an end of week performance. Cost: $195 for half day, $325 for full day.
Band and Orchestra Camp: Grades 6-9. Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3115 Providence Road. July 7-11, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Students placed according to ability. Auditions will be held May 10, 14, and 17. Instruction includes improvisation, theory, marching fundamentals, sectional coaching, and performing seminars. Camp ends with a concert. Cost: $260.
Folk Master Camp: All ages. June 16-20, 7:30-9 p.m. Explore the world of folk music, polish your playing skills, learn new tunes and perform your favorites with fiddlers, banjo players and guitar pickers. Solo and ensemble playing opportunities. Cost: $85.
Let’s Pretend Dance Fantasy Camp: Ages 4-6. Half-day camp at the CSA South Satellite, 9517-D Monroe Road. June 16-20, June 23-27, 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Themed activities featuring ballet, music, crafts and characters. Cost: $125 per week.
Making a Rock Band: Age 13 and older. East Satellite location, 4949 E. Albemarle Road. June 23-27, 1-2:30 p.m. Play classic rock, pop and alternative music in a rock band setting. Students take home a CD of their band’s end of week performance. Led by professionals, with no more than six students. One year of playing experience required; singers will be auditioned. Cost: $110.
Brightstar Music Festival: Ages 6-8: Young Maestros Level I; Ages 9-11: Young Maestros II; Ages 12 and up: Chamber Music Performance. June 23-27, 9 a.m.-noon. All students receive a free pass to Brightstar Music Festival’s professional chamber music concert at Spirit Square. Cost: $150 per week.
